Such socialism is threatened by the revolt ofLabour itself, betrayed by its leaders.
Amidst a spiritual breakdown such as the worldhas not seen since the decay of the Roman Empireneither political nor economic schemes will preventthe age from shooting down into cataclysm.
Our only hope lies in a spiritual rebirth whichis to quicken the great ideals of democracy to anew life. Is there a belief, social and democraticat the same time, which is equal to the intellectualachievements as well as to the emotional tendenciesof the rising generation ? Shall we succeed ingaining afresh what, as an inheritance from ourfathers, for many of us is worse than unnecessaryballast, but has become in fact a dead letter ora lie on which a social fabric cannot be built ?
